Summer activity
Sightseeing, cycling, mountaineering and more
On fine summer days, the town is an attraction in its own right. Immerse yourself in the colours and scents of the fruit market, go shopping under the medieval arcades or meet and greet Ötzi, the famous ice man housed in the Archaeological Museum. Other cultural sights include Runkelstein Castle and Museion – the museum of modern art. On warm summer nights, dining al fresco in one of the old town’s many restaurants is a real pleasure. And when the mercury rises, you can escape to the mountains and get your fix of fresh air – three different cable cars head up to the heights from Bolzano.
Or why not cycle southward along the Oltradige cycle path to Caldaro and take a dip in the lake to cool off?
Summer experiences
Three cable cars,
a thousand adventures
Just a two-minute walk from Bolzano Youth Hostel, the Renon cable car takes you up to the Ritten plateau, where you can walk and cycle to your heart’s content, or even swim in the Costalovara Lake – always with a view of gorgeous mountain scenery. We especially recommend a trip on the Renon historical train – a lovely way to explore the area! The San Genesio cable car links Bolzano to San Genesio, on Mt. Monzoccolo, where you can admire Europe's largest larch plateau, among other things. The Colle cable car – the world's oldest cable car – also affords a beautiful view of Bolzano and the surrounding peaks as it takes you up to idyllic hamlets and a 50-metre-high wooden observation tower.
